For the first time in the Madison Area USBC YA history, scholarships will be paid out for individual awards and doubles instead of the plaques that have been given out previously.  Individual scholarships will be awarded based on pins over average in the team event.  In addition, the top scratch game and series in each category will also receive a scholarship (can only win one of them).  In order to award these more fairly the 9 divisions previously used for singles was cut down to 6.  This allows for a more equal distribution.  The doubles will use the same divisions as in the past but could change in future years for a better distribution there too.  Based on last years’ numbers we would have awarded at least $ 3,700.00 in scholarships to local youth bowlers.  All of the scholarship monies will be sent to the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) S.M.A.R.T. fund for administration.  Association President Phil Dowling cited ‘This has been a dream of many of us for quite some time.  It has just taken a while to come up with the right plan to do it’.
